Overview

Leaving Alice we take the well traveled tourist run to Hermannsburg, the home of the famous Australian artist Albert Namatijira, and learn about his life and the Lutheran churches involvement in this area. We continue for Kings canyon on the not so traveled Mereenie loop, where we will walk the rim of this spectacular rock formation. Hoping we travel in a good season we will see fields of wildflowers as we make our way to Curtin Springs, Yalara, Uluru and Kata Tjuta where there is always something different to learn and see.

After a few walks and stories we leave this area for the desert country of the Finke river and Simpson desert. For the 400 km crossing and 1200 sand dunes of the Simpson desert. Another area that has so much to offer, after back to back raisin the desert, it will leave you in ore of its beauty.

Arriving in Birdsville with a well earned thirst we will visit its famous hotel. Before making our way across to the inland rivers and basins of outback Queensland , to finish our tour in Toowoomba.

Itinerary

We will collect you from your accommodation at 7 am. Today we are traveling out of Alice Springs towards Hermannsburg (most famous as the birthplace of Albert Namatjira), a remote Aboriginal community and Lutheran mission. We will travel the Mereenie Loop road and walk the rim of the Goose Bluff meteorite, and then on to our camp in the Watarrka National Park. (Kings Canyon)

Today we are going to walk the 6 km rim walk of the Kings Canyon. This is a grade 4 walk with spectacular views of the canyon and surrounding area. Then we will return to our camp for a meal under the stars.

Pack up camp and drive to, for some, the long awaited first sighting of Uluru, one of Australia’s most famous landmarks and the second biggest monolith in the world. We will visit the cultural center and hope to get a taste of this amazing connection to the land and the local Yulara Aboriginal people.

Day 04 :
Uluru

This morning we will get up Early for a sunrise over the Rock, then walk the Rim. We do not recommend anyone to climb this impressive structure but would hope we would walk the circumference of this wonderful Rock. (10.6KM walk)

Today we will see the western side of the national park and walk the Kata Tjuta land formation. We will be in the area all day so hope that we all walk the Valley of the Winds (7.4km). Return to Yalara for a sunset over the Rock. We will spend another night at Uluru National Park

After packing camp we will be following the Finke river out into the Simpson Desert to make our camp on the edge of this desert at Mt Dare Station. Here you will be pleasantly surprised by where we are camped.

An early start today with some spectacular sand dunes to cross and a few hundred kms of desert to travers. Visit Dalhousie springs for a swim in the artesian waters. Our night will be spent in one of Australia’s remote places, the Simpson Desert, you can only imagine the star show.

Another day and night in the desert, on Walkandi track. We will experience the remoteness of this area and to see the beauty it has to unfold.

Continuing along the French line and onto Poeppels corner (QLD, NT, SA). We will climb “big red” and onto Birdsville for a well earned thirst quenching ale.

We will explore this local area, and continue towards Quilpie visiting some of the remote townships along the way. Our night will be spent at the newly renovated Brick Hotel.

A driving day today with a chance to visit some of the interesting places along the way on our route to Toowoomba, where our tour will end.
